Liminal Space

pen_umbra A creative, well-produced album of melancholy prog-rock songs in the same vein as 2011 Steven Wilson and Opeth. The drumming is immaculate; the bass, guitar, and keys are melodic without being complicated. So cool to have a band like this in Perth.

Get your hands on a coloured vinyl if they're still around- it is absolutely stunning in person. Favorite track: Drifting.

Michael Mueller Such a strange, beautiful album. Rarely have I heard such a confluence of influences cohere into something so authoritatively, definitively unique.

The sound here is mournful, but not without hope. Distinctly Australian; wiry, spacious. Crunches of guitar with Sculthorpe-like stringed flourishes. Vocals hovering in the low-Buckley range.

Skygazer are a unique talent. They deserve a wide audience a great deal of recognition. Favorite track: Nowhere.

A New Fate 06:16
The ink of two minds; These thoughts are not my own. A darker place, unheard; Where gravity unfurl. Come free me, from my ways Distill my mind with with hope Goodbye, my fight; To an endless night New Fate, befallen me A New fate New Fate, has swallowed me A New Fate See places we wont roam Beyond our tiny dome No life beyond my world My voice was never heard
2.
Backdraft 05:50
The blueprint fades away I try, to be unknown A ghost of yesterday Descend to commonplace Held on, inside the coil Moved on, inside You find that theres nothing there to keep you whole inside You see though it all Like a piece of glass that shattered on the floor Crawl out that empty space Rebuild it and replaced My life, inside I am just a drop in the ocean Onward I flow
3.
Turmoil 04:35
With a fist in my throat I grit my teeth to bear it And ill let myself go I'll try anticipate it Turmoil The wolves line up waiting Turmoil it burdens the raven Turmoil The wolves line up waiting Turmoil With the sweat on my brow I clench my fist to hold it And as the pain grows Before you try and take it
4.
Nowhere 06:13
Here we fail again The colour of spring Comes pouring in From outside my door I see the storm It comes rolling on You told me You hold me You’ve let me down So I'll stay here for now Lying on the floor I see the core to realise This Tranquil nowhere Living day to day I want to fade away And forget today Lost and broken down Just a room with a view Looking out to you Beholden to the sun Sing to the end Never again Crawl back to the light I’ll fail again To feelings feign
5.
Drifting 04:38
You see the sun it dips below the water line And as I hold you close, I know I feel it too And to those shadows cast, of dangers yet unheard Hey you, You will be drifting on forever Falling through It’s untrue, You will be drifting on forever Falling through Now as I let you float, far off into the night And as I see your face, I know I feel it too And as I wave goodbye, go off towards the line Thank you, You will be drifting on forever Falling through Adieu, You will be drifting on forever Falling through
6.
Colour Fade 07:36
I awake A warmth leaves my mind Seems I’ve had enough Of this wasted life Look through the hunters eyes Through shining stars The raven sky Spills sombre light So take my hand Let's go back to one It feeds to you I arrive The light sears my eyes Fears I've had enough Of these made up lies The open sky Shines vivid blue Take my hand Let's go back to one Colour fade Yet I still see Colour fade Yet I still be I am tired I’ve left my love behind I am tired Bloated, full of lies I am tired Colour fade from my vision Yet I still see Colour fade from my body Yet I still be
7.
This Light 14:09
The light of day Fades away An ending day I see you from afar I scream your name Words I shudder to say The light of day Fades to grey Out here In the cold Surrounded by the noise Cloudburst Far from reach It soaks me to the bone This light Is all that I can see This Light This light Is all that I can see This Light Helpless and alone Forgotten by a friend Awareness That resonates A story to be told Peel away, Peel away, from the thoughts that decry in the back of my mind Take away, Take this away, all the panic that blurred my sight Dissolve my trails For I will never be alone Then you left me here out in the terrifying night. But I’m alright. I turn my head to see where that voice is coming from Yet no one's there. I hear the words it spoke, It said to me Misery's a word that you place upon yourself. And it’s a lie. Open the sky to me As a thousand birds take flight Open the sky to me Breathe in A smoke Try to calm my nerves Reminder On a chain Hangs around your neck
8.
Depart 06:32
They say; You don't really know why you're here. Do I really have to leave, to make you stay. As if the wind knew It takes my words away I feel you. Running away from me. There's got to be, a better way. Here in meagre silence Hands around my head Depart All is just illusion Name and form are gone Depart No more tomorrow Nothing like today Depart Don’t let me drown Don’t let me drown Don’t let me
